Dear readers,
Before you is the second issue of our journal, featuring interesting and current articles from the fields of criminal, family, civil, misdemeanour, international and European law, as well as from legal philosophy and professional ethics.
In the section ‘In Black and White’, this issue addresses surrogacy, emotional manipulation from the perspective of criminal law, citizenship of the European Union and the interpretation of the Treaty on European Union in the context of Aristotle’s categories of substance and accident, as well as an article addressing the issue of attorney as the perpetrator of the criminal offence of breach of trust to the detriment of their own client.
In the section ‘Word for Word’, you will find an interview with Ivo Josipović, PhD, the third President of the Republic of Croatia and Professor Emeritus, highlighting some of the most important moments that have marked his professional career, as well as his childhood, upbringing and judicial reform.
The section ‘Chronicles’ takes us to the Republic of Dubrovnik and its criminal-law system, and to Rwanda in the period following the genocide against the Tutsi.
The section ‘Under the Spotlight’ draws us back to the present with articles elaborating on the development of a multilateral court for investment disputes, reform of misdemeanour proceedings, alternative dispute resolution, and an analysis of divergent practice among county courts in factually and legally identical cases.
Finally, in the section ‘AI is (not) Always Right’, we turn to electronic evidence under the criminal legislation of the Republic of Croatia, encrypted communication, and the use of artificial intelligence in drafting judgments.
